RETREAT + REIMAGINE

There is no space quite like R+R.

R+R is a moment of community care.

It is a cultivation of stillness + rest.

Through that portal of rest, we can reimagine our systems, our movements, + ourselves. Rest is not a luxury; it is essential, both fundamental + instrumental.

To create the kind of change that this moment requires, we will need to rest in order to reimagine.

WHAT IS RETREAT + REIMAGINE?

Retreat + Reimagine (R+R), an initiative born out of the pandemic + 2020 uprisings, is a collective respite space for community-connected Black transwomen, Black non-binary folx, + Black cis women who serve as change agents in transformative movements in Southern California. It is a movement that centers community care by creating spaces that honor restoration + healing. R+R uses rest as a portal of change. Through that portal, we can reimagine our systems, our movements, + ourselves.

Our central offering is the Retreat + Reimagine Fellowship. The cornerstone of the Fellowship is our signature R+R Weekend – a free, trauma-informed retreat to cultivate + practice rest, stillness, + (re)imagination as daily practices for change agents.

The Fellowship also includes 1-on-1 coaching support for change-agents + quarterly alumni calls to support change-makers to implement practices learned during the retreat in their relationships, communities, movements, businesses, + organizations.

R+R 2022: RENEWAL, RESISTANCE, + REVIVAL

We are facing multiple crises in our health, economies, safety, + democracy. All the while, Black women + Black genderqueer folx are leading us all towards a new vision of our future, adapting + evolving to achieve meaningful + sustainable change in our communities.

Without rest, our visions of the future wither + we risk replicating the violent systems we seek to undo. With rest, they flourish, more innovative than ever before. We need rest to reimagine + create the future we deserve.

In 2020, with help from people like you, we gifted 13 Black women + genderqueer change agents a moment of rest + community care in the midst of chaos + uprisings. We strive to keep this space free of charge for all attendees, which also means providing stipends for childcare + time off, when funds allow.

Looking towards the future, we're continuing to step deeper into our purpose by expanding access to rest, retreat, + reimagination as well as continuing to adapt to the needs of our communities.

The work of rest is community care + we cannot do this work without community support.

REST + REIMAGINE CIRCLES

Beginning in 2022, R+R will bring rest into our communities by creating the Rest + Reimagine Circle Series.

Hosted at Queen Park in Inglewood, this free gathering serves as a local touchpoint for change-makers to engage in restorative practices, connect with community in nature, restore personal energy reserves, + spark creativity in our movements. The series also focuses on distinct areas of work, starting with food justice + healing justice folx.

DeAndrea Lottier-Ross

Being a part of the 2020 R+R Retreat was such a huge moment for me. It was so powerful to be with other Black female-identified folx to pause, reset, + ground by centering our wellness, centering ourselves, + being invited to have space just to be a little more tender + loving towards ourselves + share that with each other. To this day it is one of my most cherished memories from 2020, amidst all of the chaos, to just have this moment during that year was huge. It reminds me everyday to take a few minutes for pleasure, for care, for tenderness, for myself, + I am forever grateful for that learning + teaching.
