RETREAT + REIMAGINE

There is no space quite like R+R.

R+R is a moment of community care.

It is a cultivation of stillness + rest.

Through that portal of rest, we can reimagine our systems, our movements, + ourselves. Rest is not a luxury; it is essential, both fundamental + instrumental.

To create the kind of change that this moment requires, we will need to rest in order to reimagine.

THE RETREAT

Black transwomen, Black non-binary folx, and Black cis women who serve as change agents in transformative movements.

The goal of The Retreat + Reimagine Weekend is twofold. We strive to gift time + space for guests to replenish their energy reserves so that they may return to their lives + work as change agents both rejuvenated + inspired.

The space also serves to challenge our guests to reimagine our collective relationships to rest + labor as they determine what it means to decolonize our movements + to be in right relationship with our most human needs + non-human relatives.

It is our hope that all participants will leave the space having gained practices + insights that they will instill in both their lives + their communities.

**This extends to both transwomen + non-binary folx that find safety + community with cis-women.

REST + REIMAGINE CIRCLES

Beginning in 2022, R+R will bring rest into our communities by creating the Rest + Reimagine Circle Series.

Hosted at Queen Park in Inglewood, this free gathering serves as a local touchpoint for change-makers to engage in restorative practices, connect with community in nature, restore personal energy reserves, + spark creativity in our movements. The series also focuses on distinct areas of work, starting with food justice and healing justice folx.

HELP BLACK FOLX DREAM

We are facing multiple crises in our health, our economies, our safety, + our democracy. All the while, Black women and Black genderqueer folx are leading us all towards a new vision of our future, adapting + evolving to achieve meaningful + sustainable change in our communities.

Without rest, those visions never manifest. With rest, they flourish, more innovative than ever before. We need rest to reimagine + create the future we deserve.

In 2020, with help from people like you, we gifted 13 Black women and genderqueer change agents a moment of rest + community care in the midst of chaos + uprisings.

Looking towards the future, we're continuing to step deeper into our purpose by expanding access to rest, retreat, + reimagination. We will continue to invite more Black women and genderqueer folks, expanding our programming + continuing to adapt to the needs of our communities. The work of rest is community care + we cannot do this work without community support.

DeAndrea Lottier-Ross

Being a part of the 2020 R+R Retreat was such a huge moment for me. It was so powerful to be with other Black female-identified folx + pause, reset, + ground by centering our wellness, centering ourselves, + being invited to have space just to be a little more tender + loving towards ourselves + share that with each other. To this day it is one of my most cherished memories from 2020, amidst all of the chaos, to just have this moment during that year was huge. It reminds me everyday to take a few minutes for pleasure, for care, for tenderness, for myself, + I am forever grateful for that learning + teaching.
